P0113 — Intake air temperature sensor circuit high
The IAT sensor circuit reads abnormally high (often an open circuit) — wiring or sensor fault is typical.
What it means in plain English
P0113 means the intake air temperature sensor circuit is reporting a voltage/resistance the computer reads as “too high” (often −40°F equivalent / open circuit). The IAT may be integrated into the MAF housing on many cars.
Common causes
- Failed IAT sensor (or MAF with integrated IAT)
- Open or damaged wiring / connector
- Corrosion at the connector
What you can safely check
- Inspect the MAF/IAT connector for unplugged or damaged pins after recent air-filter service.
- Don’t spray harsh cleaners into a hot-wire MAF unless the product and procedure match your sensor type.

A reusable Bluetooth OBD-II scanner lets you read the code and freeze-frame data before authorizing “mystery” diagnostics. One option: BlueDriver Bluetooth Pro OBD-II scan tool (BlueDriver/Levanta affiliate). Any capable OBD-II reader is fine — this is not required to use Fair Auto Shops.
When to go to a shop
Diagnosis is usually electrical (resistance/voltage). If the IAT is built into the MAF, replacement may mean a MAF assembly — confirm before authorizing.
Typical related repair costs (U.S. national averages)
These are related repairs shops may find after diagnosis — not a guaranteed bill for every P0113. Ranges exclude taxes, fees, diagnostics, and your location.
- $274–$381 national average for mass airflow sensor replacement (RepairPal; estimates last updated September 3, 2026; excludes taxes/fees and location; source). Labor $51–$75; parts $223–$306.
Use the MAF range only when your vehicle’s IAT is part of the MAF and testing condemns that unit. Standalone IAT sensors are often cheaper — ask for the part number on the estimate.

FAQ
What should I do first with a P0113 code?
Photograph all codes, note symptoms and whether the light is flashing, avoid clearing data until a shop sees it, then use an independent shop with a clear diagnostic plan.
