Honest mechanics, by city
Evidence-backed directories of independent shops locals recommend for fair dealing — one U.S. metro at a time.
Most “best mechanic” lists are ads, affiliate doorways, or scraped star ratings. This project is the opposite: shops only make a city’s list when we find independent public recommendations (mainly Reddit neighborhood threads, plus occasional named X posts) that specifically praise honesty or fair dealing — and we show the sources. Same vetting rules in every metro.
Vetting criteria (same in every city)
- Multiple independent mentions preferred (2+ people in different threads or years).
- Honesty signal required: fair pricing, no upsell, talked customer out of work, clear estimates — not just “good” or “fast.”
- Independent shops preferred. Mega-chains excluded unless the honesty signal is unusually strong.
- No invented facts: addresses/phones only from public listings. No fake ratings.
- Evidence dated: each listing shows last-seen recommendation date.

Suggest a shop (any city)
Know a mechanic who won’t rip people off? Send a tip — suggestions go to hello@fairautoshops.com. We only list a shop after public evidence clears the honesty bar; a tip starts review, it is not an automatic listing.
